The National Academy of Vector Borne Diseases (NAVBD) is the premier body in the country working for the cause of human health. Prior to the formation of this academy there was no forum to bring together the scientists, academicians and public health personnel working in malaria and other vector borne diseases in the country to disseminate and exchange their experiences and knowledge in controlling these diseases.


Therefore in 1994 about 15 like minded scientists decided to constitute this academy with Dr V P Sharma as the PRESIDENT and AP Dash as the SECRETARY GENERAL of the Academy.


The membership has now grown up to more than 464 .The academy has organized 15 International symposia so far at different places of India. The conferences usually attended by 300-500 scientists and invited guests from India and abroad belonging to research institutions, universities, vector borne disease control programme managers and scientific staff working at the centre, states and urban areas.


The academy has published proceedings of the papers presented in international symposia at different times and News Letters annually to disseminate information to all life members as well as other important persons working/interested in the field of vector and vector borne diseases.

Awards & Recognition

The following awards have been instituted by the academy to recognize research contributions made by the scientists in the field of vectors and vector borne diseases.

  1. National Academy of Vector Borne Diseases Awards: Three awards (one for Environmental Aspects, one for Clinical Research and one for Molecular Biology) for the outstanding contributions in the field of Vector Borne Diseases.
  2. Best Poster Presentation Awards: The academy has instituted six best poster presentation awards in two categories (3 each) to be given during Annual meeting/Symposium of are given: Research Scholars (below 35 years) and Research Scientists (35 years and above).
  3. Nand Lal Kalra Award: To Scientist for significant contribution in the area of “Field Entomology”.
  4. Dr Har Gopal Sharma Award: To Scientist for significant contribution in the area of “Clinical /Parasitological Aspect of Vector borne Diseases”.

Besides these own awards the academy also gives other awards sponsored by M/s Biotech International Ltd (Shri Vivek Singhal Biotechnology Award), M/s Vestergaard Frandsen, M/s Bayer India Ltd till 2019 & Godrej Saralee Award (for 2009) to the researches for their outstanding contribution in any field of vector borne diseases preferably in the vector/disease management aspect.
